FORSAID joins NextGenBioPest clustering webinar on pest management along with six EU-funded projects

On 17 March 2026, the NextGenBioPest project organised the clustering webinar “From Detection to Decision: Building the Next Generation of Sustainable Pest and Chemical Risk Management in Europe”. The event was meant to bring together experts and stakeholders from across the landscape of EU-funded initiatives for an exchange of insights on innovation in the management of biotic stressors in agroforestry.

FORSAID was invited to begin proceedings with a showcase by its coordinator Andrea Battisti (UNIPD). He zeroed in on the potential of digital surveillance and artificial intelligence to enhance early-warning systems for forest pests and pathogens.

The agenda subsequently included presentations from the organisers at NextGenBioPest and fellow initiatives SYBERAC, SAGROPIA, EUFAWREADY, PataFEST and SAFWA-Prima. Speakers from the projects shared details on the progress of their efforts to map out opportunities for improving pest management methodologies in a variety of agricultural settings across Europe. The programme concluded with a moderated discussion on the need for meaningful intersections between early detection, risk assessment and control tools on the road to effectively containing the threat posed by biotic stressors. In addressing this topic, the segment highlighted opportunities for collaboration between the participating projects as they collectively contribute to a new standard of pest control in Europe and beyond.
