FORSAID presented at Science4All event in Padova, Italy

Between 27 and 28 September 2025, the Italian city of Padova hosted Science4All, an event organised by the University of Padova (UNIPD) and designed to bring science closer to the public. Among the 250 activities set out in the programme, the Entomology group of the University's Department of Agronomy, Food, Natural Resources, Animals and Environment (DAFNAE) took part with a stand entirely dedicated to the fascinating world of insects, showcased along the “Boulevard of Sciences”. The forest species studied within the FORSAID were among those displayed there, presented by project partners Andree Cappellari and Valerio Caruso.

Over the course of these two days, hundreds of people of all ages visited the event and stopped by the entomology stand. They were thus introduced to the objectives of FORSAID, with a particular focus being placed on the spruce bark beetle Ips typographus. This a species that has drawn strong public interest, especially in the aftermath of the Vaia storm of 2018 and the subsequent bark beetle outbreak. Thanks to the Entomoscope, one of the research tools employed in FORSAID, visitors could observe the insects up close. This hands-on experience sparked curiosity and discussion, showing how even the smallest organisms can have a significant impact on forest ecosystems.

Ultimately, this enthusiastic response confirmed that the topics addressed by FORSAID, from the role of forest insects to their effects on ecosystems, are not only scientifically relevant, but also of clear interest to citizens.
